Twenty-one years in prison for killing his 51-year-old wife Marisa Pireddu with 58 stab wounds in Serramanna.

This is the penalty imposed by the Assize Court of Cagliari on the 59-year-old Giovanni Murtas, who after the auxoricide had tried to take his own life by stabbing himself in the chest.

The man, defended by the lawyer Herika Dessì, had been saved thanks to the intervention of the carabinieri and an emergency transfer to the hospital, where he had been hospitalized in a coma for months.

The prosecutor Nicola Giua Marassi had asked for 24 years , the judges decided on the minimum sentence. The accused will also pay a provisional amount of ten thousand euros for each of the civil parties, represented by the lawyers Stefano Piras and Ignazio Ballai.
