After four and a half years of service at the head of the Nuoro Police Headquarters, Alfonso Polverino leaves Barbagia to take on a new and prestigious role in Rome, as general manager of the State Police . But it is not a farewell: in his new role he has been entrusted with a task of great importance for the island where he was born professionally – following the process of reorganizing the Police system in Sardinia, with particular attention to strengthening control of the territory and the full operation of the police stations, active 24 hours a day.

"I owe a lot to the Province of Nuoro," Polverino said during his official greeting. "I left here 35 years ago with my career and for me coming back was a source of pride. I don't hide a bit of sadness, but it's not a goodbye."

The Police Chief recalled that his stay in Nuoro exceeded all expectations: " I didn't think I would stay 4 and a half years , given that on average a police chief stays in office for two. The fact that I was promoted when I left this Police Headquarters is an important recognition, not only personal, but also for the province that has been able to enhance the work of the Police ."

Among the most significant moments of his mandate, Polverino cannot fail to mention the capture of Marco Raduano , who escaped in a spectacular way from the prison of Badu 'e Carros: «It was an operation that put the stability of the prison system to the test . The investigation required time, teamwork and great determination. The result gave satisfaction to the entire State Police, not only for the judicial aspect, but because it was a strong signal for the community».

For the Police Commissioner, the greatest value of his work is not in the judicial police operations, but in being present, every day, among the people: " If our motto is to always be there, we must respond to the needs of the individual citizen, of the community . The real satisfaction comes when a school calls us to talk about legality: that's where prevention is built, which is our main objective."

Polverino wanted to publicly thank all the colleagues and institutions with which he collaborated : «With the Prefect, the Prosecutor's Office, the commanders of the Carabinieri, the Guardia di Finanza and the Fire Department, with the mayors of the area, I had a relationship that went beyond the professional. A positive model that I carry with me and that I will try to export». A positive "Nuorese" model.

Regarding the new assignment, the reorganization of the Police in Sardinia will be central: «It must make me work», he replied with a smile to those who asked him how he will face the challenge. « There is already a plan to increase the staffing planned for September, which will affect the police stations . As the Chief of Police wants, we must aim for increasingly effective control of the territory, with a view to continuity and improvement».

Finally, a thought for the colleague who will take his place in Nuoro, Fortunato Marazzita, who will arrive tomorrow : «I hope he experiences the same emotions that I experienced and builds true relationships, as happened to me. In this province, it can be done».

A farewell that is not a farewell, but a passing of the baton with an eye already turned to the future of the State Police in Sardinia.
