Third victim of West Nile fever in the Oristano area, fifth in Sardinia if we also count the two deaths that occurred recently in San Gavino .

A man over 70 died after more than a month of hospitalization at San Martino Hospital in Oristano.

The number of infections is also rising, 26 in the province : the latest positive diagnosis concerns a man over 70 who is currently under observation in the emergency room of San Martino.

The Prevention Department of the Local Health Authority (ASL 5) immediately began an epidemiological investigation and preventive measures, which include disinfecting the area where the man who contracted West Nile virus lived.

"Infections are still rising, and unfortunately, a third death has been recorded. We must continue to follow the only prevention and protection measures available against the disease. And it is essential that those caring for the elderly and children ensure that both are implementing the same protective measures ," said Grazia Cattina, general director of ASL 5.

The advice for avoiding contracting the disease remains the same, as Maria Valentina Marras, director of the Department of Prevention, reminded us: "Stay away from potentially risky situations and protect yourself from mosquito bites with all the tools we already know: avoid standing water, protect yourself with repellent sprays and long clothing when outdoors, and screen your home with mosquito nets."
