They are called “school zones”: streets in front of schools that are closed to cars and are reserved for children and their parents. Today in Pirri two were inaugurated: in via Fabio Filzi, in the stretch between via Montecassino and via Santa Maria Chiara, and via dei Partigiani, between via Marzabotto and via delle Fosse Ardeatine.

The initiative was inaugurated by the Councilor for Mobility of the Municipality of Cagliari, Yuri Marcialis, with his colleague for Public Education, Giulia Andreozzi, together with the headmaster of the comprehensive institute "Pirri 1 and 2", Valentino Pusceddu, whose school buildings overlook the streets involved.

The ban on vehicles on the streets follows the resolution adopted by the City Council two weeks ago and is part of the measures approved with the aim of improving mobility, safety and usability of urban spaces.

Thanks to the contribution of the local police, in the first experimental phase, this morning no type of vehicle was able to circulate, park or stop in these areas, so as to guarantee greater safety both for the students who pass through them, and for the surrounding environment.

The children's response was immediate: they immediately took back possession of the street, confirming the need for a change of pace.
