Torrential rain in Southern Sardinia: rivers overflow, roads under water

A night of great fear throughout Southern Sardinia due to violent rain that fell with maximum intensity between 2.30am and shortly before 5am .
Flooded streets, people trapped in cars, shepherds on the roofs of sheepfolds calling for help : over 160 requests for help to the fire brigade operations room . And calls continue to arrive at the switchboard.
« In Siliqua the Forrus river has overflowed , there are people evacuated and cars blocked on the SP 90 and SP 2 » reports Centro Meteo Sardegna. In Siliqua itself some people were overwhelmed by the torrential rains and one, dragged by the fury of the waters on board a Jeep Renegade, is missing . An inter-force coordination has been activated for the search through the prefecture of Cagliari. The helicopters of the firefighters and the carabinieri are in flight.
On SP2 , the civil protection recommends, " maximum caution due to the presence of landslides on the roadway ". "Citizens who have not yet reported any inconveniences and flooded basements are advised - we read on the Facebook page of the municipality of Siliqua - to do so by reporting to the number 3403583271. The civil protection, together with the fire brigade, worked all night to limit the inconvenience and provide support to citizens. In the next few hours, if the rains were to give a break, they will intervene to try as much as possible to restore normality".
Closed and then reopened , because it was invaded by debris caused by the flooding of the Rio Fanaris, the state road 196 between Villasor and Villacidro . In Villasor, some people who live on a farm invaded by water were evacuated. State road 193 was also closed between km 16 and km 22.
At Decimomannu the Cagliari-Iglesias railway line is interrupted in the direction of Iglesias .
Landslides also on state road 131, near Sardara. In Pabillonis the small bridge of “sa Taba” collapsed , leaving the area partially isolated .
Roads like rivers and San Gavino Monreale , where there are dozens of images posted online by terrified citizens. And where the mind goes back to November 18, 2013, when the cyclone “Cleopatra” caused damage for millions of euros with the roads becoming rivers, the canals flooded and the lower part of the town completely submerged.
The situation is also critical in Iglesias , Decimomannu , Carbonia, Uta and in the capital and in the entire hinterland of Cagliari.
In Villacidro, a house located on via Cagliari suffered a small fire caused by water infiltrations that reached the garage, coming into contact with the electrical system. The firefighters, supported by the carabinieri, intervened promptly, securing the area and rescuing the owner. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the fire was quickly put out.
There were also problems in Terralba with flooded streets and basements. Some problems also in the Capoterra area: the Municipality had decided to postpone an important city festival scheduled for today as of yesterday.
In Vallermosa the official station recorded almost 250 millimeters of rain fallen in just a few hours . Flooded countryside in Villaspeciosa .
In Assemini the Flùmini Mannu has swollen dangerously so much that it almost reached the bridge on Via Coghe that connects the town to the industrial area of Macchiareddu. The stretch of road in the Bau Arena area that connects Assemini, Decimomannu and Uta is closed to traffic .
Alarm also in the Oristano area , with around forty interventions by the Fire Brigade due to flooding and other damage, particularly in the Terralbese and Uras areas.
