«Public health in Sardinia is in a deep crisis and the San Francesco hospital in Nuoro is no exception. The denied right to health is one of the most important reasons why Sardinians voted for change: the health of Sardinians will be in the first place among my thoughts and actions."

The promise comes from Alessandra Todde, president of the Region awaiting official proclamation which takes its impetus from a controversy triggered by a post by the Corsera journalist, Elvira Serra, who described a negative experience she had in recent days in the Nuoro hospital: the patients were in the corridors of the Medicine department, exams defined as "urgent" were postponed and the reporter called for mass resignations.

HERE IS THE STORY:

Among others, the response from the head of Cardiology at San Francesco, Mauro Pisano, who had branded the criticisms as "superficial" had arrived quickly: while admitting the difficulties of the system, also suffered by healthcare personnel, he had rejected the heavy accusations.

HERE IS THE REPLY:

The controversy seemed closed. But Todde arrived to reopen the wound: «When the health crisis directly affects one's family members, the sense of frustration grows and the thousand stories heard become life lived», explains the president in pectore, making direct reference to the journalist's story: « It happens that a serious journalist, who honestly does her job of describing the reality that surrounds her, is targeted by those who are willing to cover their eyes in order to flatter those who have managed power up to now, using it to distribute favors" .

At San Francesco, in addition to the problems of the Medicine department highlighted by Elvira Serra, «another critical issue is the closure of the Orthopedics department. If unfortunately someone suffers a fracture, they are forced to go elsewhere for treatment. And I could go on. The shortcomings that affect healthcare in Sardinia are there for all to see and reporting them is the first necessary step to be able to address and resolve them."

During the electoral campaign «we heard hundreds of similar testimonies and now, with the campaign over, we affirm more than ever that healthcare is our absolute priority. All my solidarity goes to the journalist Elvira Serra, who with a spirit of service courageously denounced what she saw with her own eyes and experienced first-hand", concludes Todde.
