The awaited and feared confirmation has arrived: the confirmed cases of African swine fever in three animals from a Dorgali herd can be traced back to genotype two. The results of the tests on the samples confirm the suspicions raised from the outset.

«We are talking about a non-native variant of Sardinia, but today present in Italy in various regions. It is therefore an "imported" contagion and investigations are currently underway to understand exactly what the dynamics are that gave rise to the outbreak on the farm", declares the regional health councilor, Carlo Doria.

Recently the regional council adopted a resolution which provides for a series of checks in ports and airports, to try to avoid the entry of contaminated meat: among the measures, also the use of molecular dogs which must monitor the luggage of those entering on the island.

«Sardinia has adopted specific protocols for risk mitigation and the measures in place are fully operational. The control system works and has once again demonstrated great capacity for intervention, in just a few hours we managed to trace the virus and isolate the outbreak", assures Doria, " after years of fighting swine fever, the guard continues to be high and how happened pushes us to maintain the maximum level of attention. On the other hand, the fact that it is an imported contagion is an important fact that confirms the results achieved in terms of eradication and therefore does not invalidate the path undertaken with Europe with great efforts and sacrifices", concludes the councilor .
