Some themes such as the historical compromise and the firmness against terrorism have now been overcome by history, while others remain more current than ever such as the denunciation of scandals, the women's and youth issue, the peace to be achieved also thanks to disarmament. Sassari, the city where the unforgettable PCI leader was born, dedicates a meeting to him on Friday at 6pm in the university library. The evening entitled "Forty years without Berlinguer" was organized in anticipation of the fortieth anniversary of his death (11 June) by the 25 Aprile cultural association.

Speakers will be the historian of the University of Sassari, Alex Hobel, and Gavino Angius, from Sassari, former parliamentarian for numerous legislatures, vice president of the Senate, member of the national secretariat of the PCI with Berlinguer. The writer and journalist Vindex Lecis will introduce and coordinate the work.

The memory of Berlinguer is still alive, also a symbol of a politics that no longer exists and which instead - according to a note from the 25 Aprile Association - still has its great validity. «Peace, disarmament, moral question, new socialism, democracy as a universal value, fight against injustice are some of the long thoughts of the communist secretary. With his leadership, the PCI reached the historical maximum of electoral consensus and was at the helm of the large Italian cities. Furthermore, the political presence of the PCI became irreplaceable for the defense of workers' interests, against terrorism, against Euromissiles".
