The image is of the police officer injured by protesters in Turin, Alessandro Calista, embraced and protected by his colleague Lorenzo Virgulti. A frame from the video that went viral.
A moment of solidarity also traced on the sand of Platamona beach, unmistakable traces of the artistic hand of Nicola Urru, who has long left his mark on the Sorso coastline with sculptures that tell a story, sending messages of love, hope, and peace. The artist depicts the moment of the attack on the officer attacked by the Black Bloc, depicted as rabid dogs, and the friend and colleague who comes to his aid.
"Mutual respect is not a mere accessory to civil coexistence, but the very biological condition of a healthy democracy," argues Nicola Urru. "When violence erupts into public space, we witness an empathetic short circuit that transforms the citizen into a target and the state servant into a faceless automaton. This mutual dehumanization is the most insidious danger, because once we cease to perceive the humanity in those before us, every abuse becomes justifiable in our eyes." And amidst opposing fan bases and differing ideologies, for the artist , "Protecting the protester and the uniformed worker ultimately means protecting ourselves and the possibility of continuing to live in a system where dissent is not a prelude to chaos, but an exercise in civility."
