At just 10 years old, she began kneading bread, it was 1922. At 17 she opened a bakery in what is now Via Chiesa and in 1937 she inaugurated the pastry shop in Piazza Italia that still bears her name. Maria Assunta Manca, born in 1912, known to everyone simply as “Mariuccia”, still represents the symbol of female entrepreneurship in Pirrese.
More than ten years have passed since his death on June 28, 2011, at the age of 99, so there is nothing to prevent a street or square from being named in his memory.
"In agreement with the Municipality and our Council," announces the President of the Municipality, Maria Laura Manca, "we will carry out a survey of some streets with the intention of dedicating them to important figures for our community. Mariuccia certainly cannot be missing among them."
Among the many anecdotes linked to the long history of the Bar, a memorable one is the visit on January 18, 2019 by the leader of Forza Italia, Silvio Berlusconi, engaged in a Sardinian tour in view of the by-elections to the Chamber of Deputies two days later. After the political speech, in Pirri, after a crowd bath in Piazza Italia, the Cavaliere tasted Mariuccia's sweets and then, amused, began to offer them to the public, improvising as a bartender for a day.
