Mario Murru, a longtime local politician, died at 3:00 a.m. last night at his home in Baunei. He was 71 years old .

Although weakened by the illness he had been battling for years, until twenty days ago he was still working in his office in Tortolì: he was head of the UPA (Provincial Union of Artisans). During his political career, Murru, a pillar of the Christian Democrats before joining other center-left parties, had held several positions, including private secretary of the regional tourism department during the Pigliaru legislature, a member of the board of directors of the Ogliastra Industrial Consortium, of Mountain Community No. 11, and of Isola, the regional agency for artisans.

He had also been president of Baunese Calcio for a time. Mario Murru, a long-time widower, leaves behind a daughter.
