The first center in Sardinia for women (straight, lesbian, trans) and non-binary people who suffer violence is born in Pirri. The exact location is only revealed to those who ask for help. The initiative is by Lìberas, a feminist and transfeminist association founded in Cagliari last year. The latter has entered into a collaboration with the Municipality and the Pirri 1-2 Comprehensive Institute. The center includes a listening desk co-financed by the European Union thanks to a call from the international EL*C (Eurocentralasian Lesbian* Community) network. It offers telephone reception, individual interviews, legal advice when requested by the interested party, intercultural mediation and parenting support.
The initiative was presented this morning at the Municipality headquarters. «We will help the victims to regain autonomy and freedom», declares Emanuela Falqui , vice president of Liberas, «we will act according to the will of those who ask for help». Maria Laura Manca, president of the Municipality, adds: "We will network to raise awareness among families, because it is within the home that most violence occurs." For Ilaria Todde , responsible for relations with the European institutions on behalf of EL*C, "we need to talk about lesbophobia, LGBT rights and women's rights even in small towns".
In Pirri for a few months there has been an anti-violence information point in the premises of the Comprehensive Institute, which can be accessed from the entrance to the gym of the primary school in via delle Fosse Ardeatine. A space possible thanks to the availability of the principal, Valentino Pusceddu . «We want to carry out awareness-raising activities involving students», explains the school director, «to promote the culture of respect and positive relationships».
Lìberas will present its services tomorrow at 6.30 pm in the former Vetreria park. There will also be an online awareness campaign and a call for tenders from the Municipality of Cagliari will be activated in order to be present with information gazebos in the local markets of Pirri and Sant'Elia.
