At Marina di Sarrala it will be remembered as the hatching of late August.
It is that of the Caretta Caretta eggs deposited by a turtle on the beach of Foxi Manna in Tertenia this morning: around 7 am at least 120 small specimens of the protected species emerged from the sand and, as the minutes passed, reached the sea through a cordon set up by the few bathers who were on the beach at that moment.
The nest was eight meters from the shoreline. One turtle did not make it and died, while another was helped to reach the water after having found itself in difficulty along the way.
Today's event was an exceptional one for the Tertenia coast, so much so that hundreds of residents and holidaymakers rushed to watch the spectacle.
"It was a thrill to start the day like this. A nice surprise for everyone," said Gianni Secci, originally from Quartu Sant'Elena, among the first to arrive at the beach when the hatching was underway. On duty at the naval air department of the Fiamme gialla of Cagliari, the man alerted his colleagues at the Arbatax station who started the usual procedures. While waiting for the delegation to arrive on site, the area was cordoned off with reeds. The Arbatax Forestry Department was informed and an inspection was carried out.
