An autopsy will be performed in the next few hours on the body of Maria Atzeni, strangled on Saturday evening by her son in the family home in San Gavino Monreale.

The man, Simone Uras, 43, was arrested for voluntary homicide and is in prison in Uta.

The task of carrying out the autopsy examination, which will take place at the Brotzu hospital in Cagliari, was entrusted by the court prosecutor, Nicoletta Mari, to Dr. Roberto Demontis.

From a first external inspection, the 77-year-old would have been strangled , probably with her bare hands. No obvious signs of an attack were found on the body.

What is known is that on Saturday evening there was an argument between mother and son, not the first and not the only one the neighbors heard. Uras had mental and drug addiction problems and was followed by the Sanluri mental health center.

In the past, the police intervened several times due to arguments between the two, the last one on February 17th when the 44-year-old had locked his mother out of the house. “Mum attacked me and I defended myself,” the alleged murderer said to his cousin before leaving the house after the crime.

The woman immediately notified Simone's brother who went to the house and found his mother on the ground, prompting rescue. Unfortunately for Maria Atzeni there was nothing left to do: the old woman was already dead.
