Another accident on the Sassari-Olbia state road 729, caused by a wild boar that cut off a motorist, fortunately without serious injuries.

Yet another ordinance has been issued on that route for the disposal of a wild boar carcass. "Before anything else happens, we need to act now," angrily interjects Francesco Dui, mayor of Ardara. "I'm not good at finding solutions to this problem, but something has to be done."

We are not far from the memory of doctor Ciriaco Meloni, who died in a car accident on State Road 729 near the town of Ploaghe, following a collision with a wild boar crossing the road. He died instantly after his car overturned several times. "This gave us pause, but perhaps not enough," adds the mayor of Ardara.

The uncontrolled increase in wild animals and the increase in accidents requires an integrated approach that balances public safety with the ethical management of this wildlife. Wild boars have now moved into urban areas in search of food, but crop damage is still frequent, resulting in increased costs for businesses.

Furthermore, the expansion of forests into urban areas has created a high level of promiscuity, allowing these animals to pass undisturbed even within residential areas, resulting in an increase in car accidents.
