There is a hole of (at least) 7 million euros in the coffers of Area, the regional housing company that manages – or should manage – about 28,000 social housing throughout Sardinia.

This is the sum set aside in the budget, this year and for the following two, to go to cover "doubtful debts" linked to arrears. These are revenues provided by the rents but many assignees, more or less legitimate, do not pay. The data emerge from the report attached to the latest balance sheet which bears the signature of the extraordinary commissioner Antonello Melis.

In total, the rents should guarantee annual revenues of 27 million. From a rough calculation, but not too much, it emerges that more than one tenant out of four is in default. And the company announces its intention to take measures. At risk is the financial balance of an institution that works on the housing of those who cannot afford a house: more and more Sardinians.
