He had moved to Massa to work but his city, Quartu, had never forgotten him. For this reason today the relatives wanted a second funeral in the Basilica of Sant'Elena for Valentino Delfino, the forty-three-year-old who died in a tragic accident on the A 15.
The Sconvolts flag was wrapped around the urn with the ashes placed in front of the altar and all around were red and blue roses, the colours of his favourite team, Cagliari.
He had many friends here Delfino, known to all as Ciungo. Among them the Ultrà, who waited outside for the entire duration of the funeral, holding tightly, without letting go for a moment, a long banner that read “Ciao Ciungo”.
Next to it are the Sconvolts flags, the same one that Delfino's son, little Daniel, waves at the arrival of the hearse.
During the homily tears flow when the parish priest Don Alfredo Fadda says: «There are many footballers who are no longer with us and this makes us think about how many games will still be played in Heaven. And we are sure that Valentino will not miss a single one, still cheering».
At the end of the mass in the churchyard, smoke bombs and the chants of the ultras accompany the exit of the urn which is placed inside the hearse for the final journey.
On Monday, relatives will be present at the stadium for the Cagliari match and will receive homage from the players.
