The maternity ward at Cagliari's Santissima Trinità hospital is reopening. Just hours after closing due to a shortage of doctors, the reopening was announced. The Local Health Authority (ASL) announced the reopening: services are now back at full capacity.

The Director of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Eleonora Coccolone , "informs expectant mothers and the public that the emergency that necessitated the temporary suspension of the maternity unit has been resolved and that the service will resume full operation." Starting today.

The green light for reopening came after a meeting convened by the Regional President, Alessandra Todde . "The resumption of activity," the ASL continues, "was made possible thanks to the commitment of the President, who convened an extraordinary meeting in the Region with the general directors of the health authorities. During this meeting , the organizational and contractual solutions needed to ensure the presence of pediatric specialists with expertise in neonatology at Santissima Trinità were identified ."

Specifically , the problems that had previously impeded "the improvement of collaborations with professionals available to work in the hospital's Neonatology Department, including specialists from the Cagliari University Hospital, have been overcome. With the availability of neonatology expertise, continuity of care throughout the birth process can once again be ensured, as well as the organizational, quality, and safety standards that have always distinguished the Santissima Trinità hospital."

The health authority also announced that pregnant women who had planned to give birth at Santissima Trinità and who had been temporarily transferred to other hospitals "can contact the hospital's obstetrics staff to realign their birth process, with dedicated information and organizational support."

The Local Health Authority (ASL) specifies that in recent months, the Gynecology and Obstetrics department "has had to face a significant staff shortage , which it has not been possible to fill by moving up the rankings of a permanent competition or with other measures to recruit professionals."
