Bitter day of return from forced vacation for Sider Alloys workers.
The trade unions held a meeting at the gates to find a solution "to the company's decision not to pay the 13th monthly wages and salaries ", according to a joint note from Fiom-Fsm-Uilm and Cub Sardegna Sud-Occidentale and Sulcis-Iglesiente.
"We consider the company's decision unacceptable - the unions thunder - for months we have repeatedly requested a meeting with the owners in order to examine the situation in the plant, where for years no work has been carried out aimed at resuming production, as was foreseen and signed in the 2018 Program Agreement signed by the ministry, the Sardinia Region, Invitalia and Sider Alloys. The commitments made by Sider Alloys have been totally disregarded in the indifference of those who in the Program Agreement should have guaranteed compliance with the agreements and above all certified the verification with the Technical Committee provided for by Article 7 ".
The general assembly of workers has therefore decided "to return to work, but taking the decision to block the exit of the processes, including those currently set aside in the plant , furthermore it will not be allowed to carry out further demolitions in the plant unless oriented to a serious revamping project. For these reasons we ask Sider Alloys for a meeting as soon as possible to know the intentions regarding the payment of wages, pending the meeting at Mimit scheduled for next January 30", conclude the territorial secretariats of Fiom-Fsm-Uilm and Cub.
This morning, Industry Councillor Emanuele Cani met with union representatives in view of the institutional meeting on the Eurallumina, Portovesme Srl and Sider Alloys disputes, scheduled for Friday 17 January at the Ministry of Enterprise.
"As regards Eurallumina, we are convinced that it is necessary first of all to reach the redefinition of the DPCM on the methane gasification of Sardinia and we trust that this operation can be concluded quickly", said Councilor Cani.
"On the Portovesme Srl front, we will reiterate that the industrial plan proposed by Glencore is absolutely unsatisfactory for us, just as we believe the closure of the zinc line is not appropriate, and therefore we ask that the company re-evaluate its reopening or alternatively present a real industrial plan that can include the commitment of all workers - Cani clarified -. On this point, we will ask the Government, if there is another reliable entrepreneurial entity ready to take over the entire plant, as hypothesized by Minister Urso during his recent visit to Portovesme, that negotiations be carried forward without further hesitation ".
The Region, Cani added, does not look favorably on the hypothesis that the plant's production could be fragmented and entrusted to multiple parties. "With regard to the Sider Alloys issue, we want to understand whether, in light of recent events, the Government's position of trust in the current entrepreneur remains. We will also ask that the Enel issue be included in the overall picture of the Sulcis Iglesiente crisis , a topic that is in fact already on the agenda, given the hypothesis of imminent decommissioning, but on which we would like to build a reasoning oriented towards the redevelopment of the site", he concluded.
