The shortage of paediatricians in the province of Oristano is now a real emergency : " Families are experiencing a situation of serious difficulty as, in order to access the service, they are currently forced to have their children treated by a free choice with study in neighboring municipalities, when the doctor's ceiling allows it - underlines Alessandro Solinas, regional councilor of the Five Star Movement who in this regard presented a question to the president of the Region and to the councilor for health -. However, the inconveniences go far beyond the choice of pediatrician, as the competent office is only open four days a week for three hours a day and can serve a number of patients equal to sixty, and no more . The queue is therefore very long already from early in the morning. Suffice it to consider that the only pediatricians available for Terralba's children are in Mogoro and Arborea. While the children of Oristano have to move to Nurachi and Zeddiani» .

In practice, if the procedure is not completed, "parents can only accompany their children to the pediatric emergency room or go to paediatricians for a fee, with costs certainly not sustainable for all families", continues Solinas, adding: "The difficulties partly derive from the fact that the tender published by Ares, in order to fill the vacant offices, has gone deserted, and despite the fact that the ceilings of the remaining free-choice pediatricians operating in the Terralba area have already been increased to 880 patients each, an easy solution capable of meeting the needs of families has been found».

Primary care, he recalls, "represents one of the key factors against the depopulation of internal areas and it is essential to put every available tool in place with the sole objective of guaranteeing the right to health of Sardinians".

The councilor then asks the governor and the commissioner "what actions they intend to put in place so that the procedures for assigning the uncovered offices in the municipalities of the Oristano area are launched in a timely manner", considering the "alarming picture".

Furthermore, « the fact of attributing to the limited number in the Faculty of Medicine the problem of the lack of general practitioners and paediatricians of free choice in the area cannot be considered acceptable in any way . The Region had foreseen additional funds to be allocated to the provision of incentives for all those doctors who made themselves available to work in particularly disadvantaged locations, for orographic and demographic reasons. However, we still have no news regarding the compilation of a list of disadvantaged and very disadvantaged locations. A preparatory and fundamental step to provide economic incentives".
