The controversial speed camera on the 131 dir has once again landed on the benches of the Selargius City Council. This time, the one to bring the issue back to the council chamber of the Town Hall was the group leader of Selargius Deserves More Franco Camba.

The questions

"The speed camera has been deactivated for over a year," recalls the minority councilor in the urgent interpellation presented in recent days in the Chamber of Piazza Cellarium. "It has been said several times from the benches of the Council that the shutdown was necessary while waiting for the regulatory changes that the new highway code would introduce. Since the latter came into force on Saturday throughout the national territory, we wonder what this administration wants to do about the speed camera positioned in the 131 dir."

The implementing decrees

The request comes after hundreds of contested fines and over 200 appeals filed by fined motorists accepted by the Justice of the Peace. The issue has been at the center of heated discussions in the Chamber between the majority and the opposition on several occasions, and of on-site inspections to verify, among other things, the distance between the Selargius plant and the next one located before the junction for the former 131. "At the moment the plant will remain off as a form of self-protection, as soon as the competent Ministries issue the implementing decrees relating to the innovations introduced by the new highway code, including in terms of speed cameras, we will see how to proceed", was the response from the councilor for Roads Gigi Gessa. "Any other decision would obviously not only be premature but could even be illegitimate".
