New life for a square in the historic center of Sassari . After years of neglect, the widening of via Cesarino Mastino , parallel to corso Vittorio Emanuele, has been redeveloped with the intervention of the members of the San Cristoforo association.

"It was in the most complete decay - says Gianni Piras , contact person of the organization together with Manolo Pais - full of mice, syringes and various garbage". But following the civic care, made up of cleaning, plastering and furnishing the spaces, the square seems to have been reborn also thanks to the cultural activities promoted, this summer, with dances and concerts.

To celebrate the rebirth the mayor of Sassari Nanni Campus and the president of the municipal council Maurilio Murru spoke yesterday at the presentation of the mariglia tournament, among the events promoted to give new life to the open space of Sassari Vecchia.

“People come back to visit it - continues Piras - the lady who lives on the first floor has resumed looking out from her terrace after decades”.

Now the purpose is to "regenerate" other squares and continue to give positive signals within the disadvantaged reality of the historic center, afflicted by the deterioration of many buildings and by frequent episodes of crime.
