The Land Reclamation Consortium of Southern Sardinia has assigned the task for the executive planning and works aimed at completing the dam on the Monti Nieddu stream, in the Sarroch area, with a total investment of 163 million euros .
The green light for the reopening of the construction site of the work was presented this morning in front of the control center of the reservoir, a meeting attended by the regional councilor for Public Works, Antonio Piu; the president of the Land Reclamation Consortium, Efisio Perra; the government commissioner of the work, Angelica Catalano; the mayor of Sarroch, Angelo Dessì; and those of Pula and Villa San Pietro, Walter Cabasino and Marina Madeddu.
The amount includes 89.5 million for planning and works, 40 million as sums available to the administration and approximately 33.5 million already used in previous contracts between 1998 and 2019.
The new dam , about 80 meters high and with a storage capacity of 35.4 million cubic meters of water, will be the first in Italy to be built using roller-compacted concrete for the core and vibrated concrete for the upstream face . The dam will be fed by the waters of the Monti Nieddu river basin and, in the future, by those of the Is Canargius river basin, thanks to the construction of a second dam and an artificial tunnel that will connect the two reservoirs.
This additional intervention will have an estimated cost of 25 million euros . The start of the works to complete the dam is scheduled for autumn 2025, after six months dedicated to the executive design and the necessary checks. The end of the works is estimated for December 2028.
