The pre-trial detention in Sassari prison has been confirmed for the three individuals of Slavic origin arrested on charges of committing recent burglaries in Pula and Elmas . Judge Silvia Masala ordered the trio—a fifty-year-old, a thirty-year-old, and a thirty-four-year-old—to remain in Bancali, given the serious circumstantial evidence. However, she returned the case files to the Cagliari Public Prosecutor's Office, in the case of the thirty-four-year-old, due to territorial jurisdiction.
The trio is under investigation for the theft of approximately €30,000 in jewelry from the "Cara Omar" jewelry store in Elmas on July 29th, and for attempting to do so from the Crai jewelry store in Pula the following day , July 30th, when they were arrested by the Carabinieri a few hours later. In reality, the fifty-year-old and thirty-year-old are facing a long series of charges related to a series of other similar attacks carried out between Sassari and Cagliari over the past year . The robberies often involved the use of an Alfa Romeo Giulietta and the use of ropes attached to stolen cars, which allowed them to uproot safes from businesses and banks.
The Carabinieri investigations led to the collection of a series of evidence, relating to their movements, clothing, and modus operandi, that linked them to the two, supported by wiretaps and video surveillance footage . Defense attorney Danilo Mattana emphasized during the validation hearing the lack of serious evidence of guilt and challenged territorial jurisdiction. The judge, granting the motions of prosecutor Lara Senatore, confirmed the measure, arguing that the individuals were dangerous and that they could escape and repeat the crimes.
