A new product, but also a new turnover. In Santa Giusta, the fishermen of the fishing consortium who manage the lagoon have been collecting and selling clams for two weeks. This after for the first time in history the waters analyzed by the Zooprophylactic Institute were found to be suitable for fishing and marketing clams.

«A new era has begun for us - said the president of the Consortium Emanuele Cossu - We want to grow and increase turnover. We have many projects planned."

About ten fishermen are at work every morning. Every day an average of seventy kilos of clams are harvested.

«Then all the product is delivered to wholesalers, given that we don't yet have an animal enclosure - explains Cossu - The clams are distributed throughout the island, both in fishmongers but also in supermarkets. And the turnover starts to change. Knowing that our molluscs are also on the market was quality for us, it's a way to make ourselves known even better».

The waters in Santa Giusta are continuously analysed: «The parameters are always suitable - said Cossu - Let's hope for the best. In the coming months we plan to fish much more. In summer the water is often cloudy, otherwise the kilos of clams would be much more».

The fishermen have big plans: «We would like to create our own brand - continues the president of the Consortium - We will soon be working to start this journey. Likewise, we will do everything to inaugurate our fishmonger's near the pond within the year».

A new service for the town: currently, in fact, the only fish market in Santa Giusta is located inside the shopping center at the entrance to the town.
