The most tragic outcome for the searches of Gianmarco Murgia, 64 years old from Giba , and his daughter Valentina, thirty-four, who had been missing since Saturday: they had sailed from Porto Pino aboard the family boat of five meters, for a fishing in the area of the island of Toro, and have never returned.

Their bodies were recovered early in the afternoon today. They were in the waters in front of the beach of Is Pruinis, in Sant'Antioco .

According to what is learned, however, the small motorboat on which they were traveling was not found.

The men of the Coast Guard had been at work for two days, engaged in intense searches by sea, with some patrol boats, and from above, with the use of a helicopter and a plane that took off from the Decimomannu base, generally used in reconnaissance as part of the Frontex mission.

Throughout Sunday the massive deployment of vehicles was not enough to find traces of father and daughter, nor of the boat.

The sea has been constantly beaten even since dawn today.

And unfortunately the first lifeless body was found just before 2pm: it was Valentina's (here the news). While it was being transported to the port of Sant'Antioco, the second report arrived on the discovery of the second body, that of his father Gianmarco. For the recovery it was necessary the help of the fire brigade.

Family members were called to the scene to proceed with the recognition: a terrible procedure that was postponed for a long time pending the arrival of the coroner.

It is still unclear how and why father and daughter lost their lives. And how it was possible that a day that was supposed to be carefree has turned into a terrible tragedy. The death, according to initial information, would have occurred from hypothermia.

Now there is only room for pain.

"A tragedy that leaves you speechless" , is the comment of the mayor of Giba, Andrea Pisanu, "Gianmarco was an esteemed person, everyone loved him. He had a pizzeria in Masainas. For this reason, on the day of the funeral, mourning will be declared citizen both in Giba and in Masainas ”.
