An inmate returning from a day release tried to introduce 160 grams of hashish into the Uta prison , but the Penitentiary Police officers found the drug and reported him. His attempts to elude the controls to bring the substance into the penitentiary were in vain.
This was announced by the general secretary of Sardinia of the UIL pa Penitentiary Police Michele Cireddu: «The Penitentiary Police of Uta has completed yet another brilliant judicial police operation, thanks to an intense info-investigative activity. This certifies without any doubt that the Penitentiary Police represents excellence among the Police Forces , especially for the versatility of the Agents, who not only guarantee security within the institutes, but are able to complete complex judicial police investigations, both inside and outside them».
The trade unionist underlines the "illegal" conditions in which the agents are forced to work, points the finger at the overcrowding of the prison, which "houses 750 inmates, over 200 more than the regulatory capacity of 530 places" , and the staff shortage "of around 150 units".
