Quartu, on the seafront even at 120 km/h: a sting for the accelerator crafty

It may have remained unused for months, first for an overhaul and then waiting for the new equipment to arrive, but the fact is that even in the year that has just ended, the speed camera has done its duty.

Penalties on the rise – 219 motorists are caught putting their foot on the accelerator a little too much. The fines, we said, have been concentrated above all in the last few months when the new mobile speed camera (velox 106 premium color ) came into action which has joined the telelaser but which has many more advantages and is able to guarantee greater control.

Of these 219, 166 exceeded the speed limit by 10 km per hour and no more than 40, 44 exceeded it by 40 but not more than sixty and finally 9 ran at more than 60 km per hour compared to the limits established by law. Like someone who was caught on the Poetto seafront whizzing by even at 120 km per hour regardless of the dangers.

More expensive fines – The fines have recently been adjusted: they range from a minimum of 42 euros for those who exceed the speed limit by 5 km per hour, to 845 euros for those who exceed it by sixty kilometers per hour with the immediate withdrawal of the license. In between there are 173 euros of fine and minus three points for those who go from a minimum of 10 to no more than 40 km per hour and 543 euros from 40 to no more than sixty.

The presence of speed cameras has recently been used two-three times a week in the four lanes of the Poetto where there is adequate signage and where the patrol is clearly visible. However, in the coming months, especially in view of the summer, the equipment could also be used on other roads, including via Leonardo da Vinci, one of the roads with the highest risk of road accidents.

"The number of fines issued in 2022, given the little use of speed cameras, shows that despite the warnings, motorists continue to run, jeopardizing the safety of the roads", explains the deputy questioner of the local police Antonello Angioni. "In the coming months, the use of speed cameras will be intensified where the conditions exist, i.e. the suitable distance, the characteristics of the road, always in compliance with the rules".
