Investigators are examining footage from numerous video surveillance cameras installed near Via Aga Khan, which captured the final moments of Gaia Costa, the 24-year-old from Tempio Pausania who was hit and killed yesterday by an SUV driven by a 40-year-old German tourist on holiday in the Costa Smeralda.

Investigators are also interviewing witnesses to the incident, while the SUV, a large-engine BMW, has been seized.

The woman is now being investigated for vehicular homicide by the Tempio Pausania Prosecutor's Office. The accident occurred shortly after 1:30 PM, when Gaia, daughter of Alfredo Costa, a well-known trade unionist for the CISL union in Gallura, was on her way to work and crossed the street at the pedestrian crossing on Via Aga Khan, formerly Via Porto Vecchio. While she was in the lane, the SUV struck her.

The sudden impact with the car was devastating: the girl hit her head on the pavement. An ambulance arrived on the scene, and for over twenty minutes, medical personnel attempted to revive the young woman. The tourist who was behind the wheel underwent alcohol and drug tests, which were negative.
