The ordinance that's been making headlines around the world has been lifted . In Villasimius, the municipality is loosening the rules by increasing the number of people on the beach and allowing each family or group of people to use a beach umbrella.
These are the main changes compared to the ordinance of June 6th which had gone as far as to ban umbrellas for those aged between 11 and 65 and to limit the number of people on the beach to 250 (150 by land and 100 by sea).
Now, with a new measure signed by Mayor Gianluca Dessì , from today until October 31st , 290 people will be allowed to sunbathe on the beach at any one time . Officially, the reason for the change of direction is a "partial improvement in site conditions."
In the ordinance, the mayor emphasizes that following a series of inspections, it was noted that the beach conditions "are constantly evolving , so it is possible to prudently adjust the access restrictions and the methods of use of the site ."
Therefore, "access to the complex by land is permitted up to a maximum of 190 people in total at any one time," the document states. Vehicles are also limited to a maximum of 90 vehicles per day . Arrival by sea is permitted up to a maximum of 100 people, exclusively by operators authorized to operate in the Capo Carbonara Marine Protected Area.
There will also be timetables. Access to Punta Molentis is from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.: "Staying past 10 p.m. is strictly prohibited."
Shadow section. "The independent installation of umbrellas, tents, gazebos, poles, or other similar structures into the ground is prohibited. Only one umbrella is permitted per family unit or organized group of people accessing the property together, regardless of their access method, provided that its installation is supervised by personnel specifically designated by the in-house company Villasimius Srl." Exceptions apply to businesses that own beach concessions.
The new direction at Punta Molentis comes after two events that severely tested the beach: last July's fire and the storm surges caused by Cyclone Harry. These efforts were aimed at protecting a fragile beach that could accommodate up to 700 people until 2025.
