Simona Fanzecco is the new general secretary of the CGIL Sardinia. The handover took place today, during the General Assembly, which bid farewell to the outgoing secretary: Fausto Durante, in office since October 2022, is stepping down upon reaching retirement age. The election of the first female secretary of the CGIL region was sealed by General Secretary Maurizio Landini , at the T-Hotel in Cagliari, along with organizational representative Pino Gesmundo.
Born in Cagliari, 48, Simona Fanzecco has been a member of the CGIL (Italian General Confederation of Labour) since she was 19. She worked at a large supermarket, where she began her career as a delegate, and later pursued union activity within the Filcams branch, where she served as secretary for the Cagliari branch and then at the regional level. In 2011, she moved to the confederal secretariat of the Cagliari Metropolitan Chamber of Labor, which subsequently elected her general secretary in 2022.
"For the CGIL of Sardinia and for the entire CGIL, this is a very important day that demonstrates the value our organization places on skills and experience," said the general secretary of the national CGIL, Maurizio Landini. "Not only because we have elected a comrade, the first woman to lead the regional confederation here in Sardinia , and this is a significant element, but also because, beyond the gender issue, the quality with which Simona has carried out her work throughout her journey so far must be recognized."
The newly elected regional secretary's first thought in her programmatic report was for Fabrizio Pittalis, the young student who died a few days ago while working at the recycling center near Oniferi : "Dying at 18 is not a fatality," she said. "It's the condemnation of an entire country that, let's face it, is unjust. Enough with the rituals of platitudes, enough with the delays: the immediate implementation of the Buggerru Protocol, strict controls, and zero tolerance are the priority."
A statement that already encapsulates the sense of commitment, of an attitude and a political line that was later clarified in the lengthy report in which the secretary touched on all the critical issues facing Sardinia, the regional and national challenges facing the organization.
During the Assembly, the newly elected member then proposed two names to join the current secretariat: Nicola Cabras (secretary of the Fp Cgil Cagliari) and Francesca Nurra (former secretary of the Sassari Chamber of Labor) remain part of the team, and two new members join: Margherita Tola (member of the secretariat of the Nuoro Ogliastra Chamber of Labor and secretary of the Fiom of the same area) and Franco Bardi (secretary of the South-Western Sardinia Chamber of Labor).
