Politics in Medio Campidano is in turmoil over the election of the new Provincial Council. While a unified list initially seemed a foregone conclusion, the logic of division prevailed over previously agreed terms. Now it's official: everyone is going their separate ways.

Former Army Colonel Giorgio Zucca, current mayor of Sardara, confirmed this: "The second-level provincial elections in Medio Campidano have unfortunately confirmed what we saw in previous councils: divisions, partisan logic, and vested interests. It's shameful," Zucca continued, "to once again witness the rush to fill positions that I would describe as politically underdeveloped, without any of our representatives in Parliament having the courage to put forward concrete proposals to restore hope to a region that has been trampled upon and forgotten for years by the politicians of the day."

The mayor doubles down on the division of power: "On the contrary, we are witnessing 'remote-controlled' mayors and administrators forced to respond to the logic of political 'patronage' to obtain positions that will ultimately constrain them. We must dismantle the system of 'political acrobats', a legacy of the old politics. Today, it's even difficult to define oneself as right-wing, center-left, or left-wing; many simply respond to the logic of securing a 'little post', a small center of power to settle for the paltry sum of an attendance fee or an allowance. Human misery knows no bounds."

Zucca points the finger at the Del Rio law, arguing for the primary role of citizens in choosing political representatives and calling for a return to first-level elections: "This administration," Zucca concludes, "only further alienates citizens from politics and fuels distrust in those who should represent them."
