"The minister confirmed his commitment to keeping the Region constantly informed regarding the placement of prisoners under the 41-bis regime in Sardinia." This was the outcome of the meeting in Rome between President Alessandra Todde and Justice Minister Carlo Nordio. The main topic of discussion was the announced transfer of over 90 maximum-security inmates to Uta prison. Most of them are dangerous, convicted mafia members.

During the meeting, Todde expressed the Region's concerns about the serious consequences for the region's safety, health, economy, and social cohesion.

"The meeting with Minister Nordio," President Todde stated, "was useful and constructive and allowed us to lay the foundation for ongoing dialogue between the Region and the Ministry, fully respecting their institutional positions and roles. I reiterated that Sardinia, identified as an area at risk of mafia establishment and development, is particularly exposed to the negative effects of the presence of a high number of 41-bis prisoners. This could foster the strengthening of ties between traditional and local organized crime, with social and health implications that cannot be sustained without a structured intervention plan. Sardinia cannot and must not be considered a testing ground. From the conversation with Minister Nordio, it is clear that at this time no final decision has yet been made."

Even though in July the ministerial offices had sent a note to all the interested bodies, announcing the imminent transfer to Uta.

The minister, according to a statement, confirmed his commitment to keeping the Region constantly informed regarding the placement of prisoners under the 41-bis regime in Sardinia.
