"This act of vandalism against our facility forces us to consider the possible installation of a video surveillance system outside, an area currently without cameras."
This was declared by the president of the Biccheddu Deroma Foundation , Pierluigi Molino , the residential community of Porto Torres that hosts the elderly , following the act of vandalism committed on the night between Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th , a vile gesture carried out with the sole aim of damaging the steps of the retirement home , located in front of the Atrio Comita, the monumental area of the basilica of San Gavino.
A group of thugs attacked the capitals of the columns of the staircase leading to the first floor of the ancient structure, fragments of concrete were thrown onto the lawn and ornamental plants were torn from their pots and thrown on the ground.
"We have documented everything - adds Molino - but there is the problem of the staircase of historical value on which the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage needs to intervene to authorize the maintenance work, methods and times that we must evaluate together".
