The establishment will be held in mid-October, and now the first meeting will take place to get to know each other and decide together how to intervene to combat West Nile, focusing on scientific research, technological innovation, and increasingly targeted interventions.
The Province of Oristano is strengthening its strategies to combat the spread of mosquitoes and health risks. A new technical committee has been officially established, a strategic body bringing together various agencies, institutions, and stakeholders with the goal of working together and continuing to overcome the emergency through structured, scientific prevention.
The partner group includes the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Sassari, the Zooprophylactic Institute of Sardinia, the Local Health Authority (ASL), the Land Reclamation Consortium, IPLA (a Piedmontese company with experience in organic treatments in rice fields), the relevant regional departments, and the trade associations Confagricoltura and Coldiretti. The group was established to develop experimental projects with a strong scientific focus, designed to be replicable on a large scale.
As the Province states, the interventions aim to drastically reduce mosquito populations in three key areas: urban environments, areas with a strong tourist vocation, and agricultural zones and rice paddies. Now, a team effort begins. Each agency will develop an action plan. The ultimate goal is excellent prevention, capable of anticipating critical situations and avoiding emergency interventions, ensuring maximum protection for citizens' health and safeguarding the agricultural and tourism sectors, while respecting the environment.
