The Saturno trawler, the vessel that had managed to moor at the Darsena dock in Porto Torres, has been completely refloated after hitting rocks during the night between Thursday 31st and Friday 1st August, taking on water from its torn bow to the point of compromising its buoyancy.

The intervention by the diving unit of the Sassari and Cagliari firefighters, with the collaboration of the teams from the Porto Torres detachment , began on Friday shortly before 2 a.m., over 48 hours of activities to empty the hull to prevent the naval vessel from sinking, an operation coordinated by the Port Authority which is investigating the causes and any responsibilities that led to the accident.

The operation was completed this morning, thanks to the positioning of lifting balloons , and in the next few days the vessel will be recovered using a Cermelli crane for transport to the shipyard and possible repairs.

There were three crew members aboard the Saturno at the time of the accident, including the captain, who, likely due to a brief drowsiness, failed to sense the danger at sea. The damage is extensive.
