New projects to increase forestry resources in the Porto Torres area have been approved, thanks to new regional funding totaling approximately €285,434.
The Environment Commission, chaired by Gianpiero Madeddu, approved the 2024 plan, which this year will involve 13 workers—a construction manager, a qualified bricklayer, and 11 qualified gardeners—in the care and maintenance of some of the city's important green spaces, totaling 130 square meters out of an existing 400 square meters. This is in line with the program approved by regional resolution on the expansion, maintenance, and enhancement of woodland on land located near areas affected by severe deindustrialization, abandoned quarries, municipal solid waste incineration plants, or fossil fuel energy production plants.
Maria Elena Sini, the official responsible for the Forestry project, illustrated the 24 interventions in different areas of the municipality.
The first area of intervention has been identified on Via Gobetti, at the corner of Via Monti. This includes clearing the area, pruning shrubs and trees, and upgrading the existing fence along the sidewalks on Via Monti, including replacing the one on Via Gobetti. The fence will also be cleaned and maintained on Via Pertini. In the area between Via Gramsci and Via Monti, tree pruning and the fence will be performed. The posts will also be sanded between Via Alighieri and Via Monti. The same work will also be carried out on Via Pratolini, Via Manzoni, and Viale della Libertà. Work will continue on the corner of Via Manzoni and Via Benedetto Croce, on the east and west sides of Via Alighieri, on Via Calvino, in the Balai green space, with clearing of undergrowth in Baden Powell Park, and in the standard area of Via Emanuele Loi.
General cleaning was also carried out on Via Borsellino, at the corner of the coastal ring road, and in the flowerbed at the entrance to the city, including the green space on Via Sassari and the corner of the Ponte Pizzinnu consortium road. Work was also carried out on Via dell'Industria and Via Rum.
