"To overcome the shortage of doctors in hospitals, the solution is not to open medicine to everyone, but to improve the professional path".

These are the words of the Undersecretary of Health, Pierpaolo Sileri, speaking at a conference of the University of Sassari on health.

Sileri therefore wanted to explain how the Government's response to the hunger for professional figures in the national health system will not be the abolition of the number programmed for access to degree courses.

"The problems of hospitals and personnel are the legacy of incorrect planning , strongly constrained by budgets - he specifies - We already knew the difficulties highlighted by the Covid-19 pandemic. And they derive from budget problems, which led to a slimming of the national health system, of which we are now paying the consequences ".

The solution does not seem on the horizon.

"It is necessary to change the perception of the needs of healthcare personnel - explains Sileri - to avoid the flight of doctors and use the money from the NRP to the fullest, and not according to the logic of 20 years ago. It should also be specified that there is not only the PNRR, but also 128 billion from the National Health Fund. Money to be used with shared governance actions, including with health personnel ".

At the conference also the intervention of President Solinas , who wanted to express his thanks to all the health personnel involved in the pandemic: "The Region has activated a synergy with the Government in order not to miss the opportunity of the PNRR, with resources that will give us the opportunity to also review the territorial structure in the health sector. If we invest in telemedicine , we will certainly be able to free up human and instrumental resources that can be used for the needs in the rest of the system ".
