The Municipality of Quartu stands with animals. The administration's commitment to combating stray dogs continues: for the second consecutive year , the "Adopt a Dog from the Shelter" project is back. This provides a financial incentive—in the form of a voucher —to cover part of the initial costs of adopting a dog . Last year, this opportunity was limited to animal rights organizations , but now residents can participate as well . The contribution can be used for food, vaccinations, basic veterinary care, and other costs associated with caring for a pet.
The Municipality has allocated a total of €20,000 to encourage new adoptions and ease the pressure on the Shardana Kennel , where admissions have increased in recent months, partly due to summer abandonments and the clearing out of the Santu Lianu shelter. The goal is twofold: to provide a safe haven for animals waiting for a family and to prevent stray animals from posing a danger to the dogs themselves and to residents.
Applications to participate in the project must be submitted by 2:00 PM on Monday, December 15, 2025, via certified email (PEC) or in person at the Municipality's Registry Office. After verifying the requirements, the Administration will notify beneficiaries that the voucher has been granted.
