On Siccu, the removal of the remains of the Cantiello begins: the bill has risen to half a million
The pontoon that is supposed to recover the sunken wreck of the vessel that transported the prisoners to Asinara is now operationalVideo di Federica Perri
A new expenditure of 200 thousand euros was necessary, bringing the total bill to about half a million, to demolish what remains of the Gennaro Cantiello, the ship used for years to transport prisoners from the mainland to the Asinara prison and then purchased by Salvatore Pergola, who briefly turned it into a floating restaurant before abandoning it in the port of Su Siccu.
Yesterday the “motopontone” began work to remove the semi-submerged part of the wreck, the part that a crane had attempted to remove in December, before it was discovered that the ground on which it was supposed to rest was not stable enough. For this reason it was necessary to make a further tender – worth 200 thousand euros – for the floating “motopontone”.
The Port Authority will pay the invoices and will then have to recover the costs from the owner of the ship, who had not respected the demolition order.
