Cagliari is among the 13 cities eligible to apply to host matches at Euro 2032, but the tender for the new stadium where the matches are due to be played in less than six years has not yet been issued .

First came the good news from the FIGC , which sent UEFA the dossiers for the venues. Then, shortly after, a brief statement from Palazzo Bacaredda came as a shock. The tender for the construction of the new facility hasn't been published yet.

The Municipality first emphasized that "the documentation submitted with the application was deemed particularly comprehensive, demonstrating the progress of the stadium program." It then noted that there are still some fine-tuning (perhaps more) to be done to the tender. Therefore, the timeline is being extended: "The audit required by the Procurement Code is continuing by the appointed company, given the complexity of the project, the volume of documents, and the duty to safeguard the public interest to the fullest extent. The administration has willingly accepted this extension to ensure the tender is free from any critical issues. The tender will therefore be published once the audit company's work has been successfully completed promptly ," the press release states.

The locations and the process

These are the 13 venues identified by the FIGC in the dossier sent to UEFA's Alexander Ceferin: Bari, Bologna, Florence, Genoa, Lecce, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Rome, Salerno, Turin, Verona, and, of course, Cagliari . There are 14 stadiums, because Rome is competing with the Olimpico and the project for the new stadium in Pietralata.

In the end , five will remain, again indicated by the FIGC , after UEFA has carried out compliance checks covering 11 thematic areas, including infrastructure compatibility, and 120 operational requirements (for example, services for fans, accessibility, sustainability, services for the media and broadcasters, security and hospitality).

There are four non-existent stadiums that are candidates to host Euro 2032, in addition to Cagliari, also the new stadiums in Milan, Rome and Bologna .
