Acquitted because the facts were not proven. Judge Marta Guadalupi delivered her ruling yesterday in the Sassari courtroom in the manslaughter trial against three defendants, which began after the 2016 death of Ennio Angelone, a 71-year-old motorcyclist who fell to the ground near Codrongianos on a diversion at approximately km 191, allegedly hitting barriers.

At the time, construction of section 0 of the Sassari-Olbia highway was underway on the SS 131 and SS 597. According to the prosecutor's indictment, the accused were found guilty of "negligence, imprudence, and incompetence in violation of the Highway Code," referring to a violation of a technical regulation related to the signaling and positioning of the New Jersey barriers. According to the indictment, the barriers struck by the victim were found to be "not adequately marked by either reflective strips or dedicated lighting devices," and were intended to delimit the diversion.

During the hearing, prosecutor Maria Paola Asara had requested a two-year sentence, while the defense lawyers, Nino Cuccureddu, Massimiliano Ravenna, Ernesto Pastorino, and Luca Marafioti, maintained their clients' innocence.

Those acquitted were Marino Passi, the construction site's technical director and manager of the contract under which Anas had awarded Condotte Spa the construction of the aforementioned lot, as well as the person in charge of supervising the works. Massimiliano Farci, special attorney for Segnal Strade, the company responsible for temporary signage, and Giuseppe Frau, an employee of the latter, were also acquitted.
