The judge of the Court of Tempio, Alessandro Cossu, sentenced Marco Angelo Appeddu, 60, from Olbia, to six months' imprisonment, accused of manslaughter over the death of Giovanni Achenza , long-time general manager of the Municipality of Olbia.

The city manager died in March 2018, aged 70, after a very long hospital stay .

Achenza, two years earlier, had fallen off his bicycle while riding down via Barcellona , hitting his head on the sidewalk after being hit by the door of a parked car.

According to the prosecutor, Appeddu had opened the door without checking the passage of people or vehicles , while at that very moment Achenza arrived on his bicycle. Appeddu's lawyer, Alberto Sechi, is evaluating the appeal.
