The Orgosolo community is shocked, it cannot find peace. It demands clarity, above all justice. No one here has forgotten Nicoletta Manconi, the medical student who died a year ago in Cagliari in mysterious circumstances, at just 24 years old. "Her death occurred on September 25, 2023, after her discharge from the Santissima Trinità hospital with a diagnosis of "acute gastritis"", specifies the lawyer Mauro Intagliata, defender of the family of the young woman from Orgosolo. "Well, to date the autopsy has not been filed. Why is there still no expert report to ascertain the causes of death? It is unjustifiable. The investigations must be completed, we must go to trial. Nicoletta could have been saved".
Drama
For over a year, the Manconi-Battasi family has lived in despair. Nicoletta was a sunny, well-liked and respected young woman, with a future yet to be written, embellished by her white coat. That cursed September 24th of a year ago, she was very ill. "She had severe acidosis, she had been vomiting for over 24 hours," Mauro Intagliata points out. The reports from the hospital in the Sardinian capital speak clearly. I arrived at the emergency room in a hurry, aboard an ambulance, at 6:43 pm. This is the "triage" time. Then, at 8:35 pm, the visit. The young woman remained under observation for a few hours at the Santissima Trinità. At 11:05 pm, however, she was discharged and allowed to go home. As anticipated, accompanied by that diagnosis that was certainly not alarming, at least on paper: acute gastritis. So, the usual recommendations for this type of discomfort: "A light diet is recommended for 3-4 days; in case of nausea, sublingual drops." In short, a situation under control, with the emergency room report in hand, to be identified with a "yellow code." Above all, according to the doctor on duty, not requiring any hospitalization.
Death
Nicoletta Manconi left the Santissima Trinità in the middle of the night. A few hours later, however, her health conditions worsened dramatically. She died in her home in Cagliari. "This poor girl's discharge was superficial," thunders the lawyer Mauro Intagliata, "she probably died from food poisoning that was not treated in any way. No doctor rushed her to hospital." The lawyer adds: "Both the emergency room certificate and the blood gas, the blood sample test that was done, indicated something completely different. She should not have been discharged. With a careful diagnosis and some additional tests, Nicoletta Manconi would not have died." Mauro Intagliata concludes: "I have filed a defense brief with the Public Prosecutor's Office in Cagliari. Justice must take its course."
