Head doctor Tomaso Cocco released from prison. The judge for preliminary investigations of the Court of Cagliari, Manuela Anzani, accepted the request of the defenders (Erika Dessì and Rosaria Manconi) of the manager of the pain therapy department of the Binaghi hospital (later transferred to Marino) by ordering house arrest in Tula, a town where a family member of the doctor lives.

Cocco ended up in prison in September 2023 on charges of mafia-style criminal association together with the former Agriculture councilor, Gabriella Murgia, and some alleged exponents of Nuoro crime, as part of the Monte Nuovo investigation conducted of the Anti-Mafia District Directorate of Cagliari.

Surprisingly, the doctor was then transferred from Uta prison to Palermo, to the Pagliarelli prison, intended for the detention of mafiosi under high surveillance. All this despite the Court of Review of Cagliari having excluded the hypothesis of mafia association, hypothesizing a simple criminal association aimed at committing crimes against the public administration.
