The thefts occurred on the night of September 29th, between 4 and 5 a.m. To determine whether the same gang is involved, however, we'll have to wait for analysis of the security cameras that captured their movements in great detail.
Concern is mounting in Nurachi and Riola over diesel thieves in both towns. The incident—which the Carabinieri of the Riola Sardo station are investigating—is generating widespread publicity, particularly given the rising fuel prices in recent months. In Riola, the thieves targeted the municipal recycling center, located on state road 292, operated by Effe Ambiente. The thieves reached the four vehicles in the yard and, using pumps, emptied the tanks. But that's not all. Batteries were also stolen, perhaps for resale. The company immediately filed a complaint and reported the incident to the Municipal Technical Office. "This is a serious act that deserves condemnation and is regrettable," explains Riola Sardo's mayor, Lorenzo Pinna. "I hope those responsible are identified."
In Nurachi, the thieves targeted the construction company Ocram Costruzioni, located in the town's industrial area. The same technique was used here: after reaching the three parked vehicles, they emptied all the tanks of fuel, worth a total of €700. The company's workers noticed the theft when they climbed into the trucks and noticed that the tanks were empty, despite having refueled the day before. The fuel tank of a company-owned car, parked not far from the vehicles, was also emptied.
The owners immediately filed a complaint. Yesterday morning, the Carabinieri arrived at the company headquarters to collect the registrations. The incident has been a hot topic in town for days. The company owners, who have their vehicles parked outside, are not hiding their fear and are considering organizing night patrols.
