The ASCOT clinic in Milis is open only six hours a week , causing a lot of inconvenience to patients who are forced to wait long and exhausting hours and to undergo continuous and sudden changes of doctors on duty.
"The clinic is only open on Wednesday mornings, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and the doctor changes every time, causing endless lines and irritating patients forced to wait hours even for a simple prescription," residents complain.
The issue was also raised by Nino Manca, a majority councilor , to alert the prefect of Oristano: "It's unacceptable to have this poor service in town. There are vulnerable people, the elderly, and those in need who require greater attention from the local health authority. Promises and declarations of improvement quickly faded, and the health service is reduced to this state. Other neighboring towns have more shifts and more Ascot hours than we do; this disparity is simply incomprehensible."
Milis lacks a general practitioner , so all the patients flock to ASCOT, the only healthcare facility open to over a thousand patients, only one day a week. "It's an indecent situation, even just to get a prescription for a lifesaving drug . Many workers are forced to take a day off to wait in the interminable queue at the clinic, risking not even being able to see them," comments another irritated patient.
Discontent and bickering have recently arisen between patients and doctors, so much so that Mayor Monica Ortu had to remind patients to "respect and be polite towards the work of others, in order to keep the service active and prevent temporary interruptions by the doctors on duty."
