The health conditions of Graziano Mesina , currently detained in the Opera prison in Milan, have worsened and are incompatible with the prison. His lawyers, Beatrice Goddi and Maria Luisa Vernier , write it in black and white, in the petition presented to the Surveillance Court of Sassari, accompanied by medical documentation. The two lawyers ask that Mesina, 80, can serve her sentence either in her home in Orgosolo or in an appropriate structure.

Today the first hearing of the procedure: the court, chaired by Giommaria Cuccuru, to assess the actual conditions of the former red primrose of Sardinian banditry, has ordered the appointment of an expert, whose task will be assigned at the next hearing on November 17. Mesina's heart conditions would be worrying, which in this last year would have worsened also due to advanced age and too sedentary life.

Mesina had been transferred in mid-July from the Nuorese prison of Badu 'e Carros - where he had been imprisoned after his capture in December 2021 at the end of a year and a half in hiding - to the Milanese prison of Opera. He went into hiding on July 2, 2020, just before the carabinieri knocked on the door of his house in Orgosolo to notify him of the final sentence of the Supreme Court, which sentenced him to 30 years in prison (then recalculated to 24) for criminal association aimed drug trafficking. In December 2021 he was tracked down by the Carabinieri del Ros and then arrested in a house of his friends in Desulo, also in the province of Nuoro.
