«Today David won against Goliath ». These are the words of 23-year-old Mattia Muggittu , owner of the Muggittu winery in Mamoiada , in the Nuoro area, who won the legal battle against Red Bull , the Austrian multinational owner of the brand of the well-known energy drink which accused the young Sardinian winemaker's company of " trademark infringement and unfair competition ."

According to Red Bull, in fact, the winery had copied the famous logo with the two bulls, inserting it on the wine labels. However, the general directorate for the protection of the industrial proposal of the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy rejected the opposition of the energy drink giant to the registration of the trademark last December 6th and now the young Mattia Muggittu will be able to continue to use the trademark of his cellar .

The label of the "Muggittu Boeli" wines depicts two oxen, one close to the other, with the red sign of the plow underneath and above the representation of the circles of the Boeli stele, a menhir that dates back to the Neolithic and is found in the territory of Mamoiada.

«I am very happy with this decision which proved us right – explains Muggittu –: the logo is the result of a graphic representation that reconstructs our history as we have supported from the beginning». For Muggittu there were many messages of satisfaction with the outcome of the case, even from Austrian citizens who supported him in the battle. " The strongest and biggest ones don't always win, but every now and then even the smallest ones can win, if they believe in it enough ", the conclusion.

«The news is a victory for Mattia and for all of Sardinia - explained the winery's lawyer Mauro Intagliata - Not only that: it is a sensational victory for Sardinia's thousand-year-old traditions against the arrogance of economic power». For the lawyer "the brand perfectly represents the rural history of Barbagia and the whole of Sardinia".
