A sudden loss has struck the rock music world in Sardinia. This morning, Massimo Antonucci, leader of one of the historic bands of the Cagliari scene in the 1980s, Physique du Rôle, passed away.
Massimo Antonucci – 65 years old, a teacher at the “Motzo” high school in Quartu – was for years the singer and frontman of the group, which included several protagonists of the first wave of new wave in the city (Riccardo Thorel, Giangi Pala, Sergio Sorresu, Piero Peis, Sergio Farci and Massimo Cappai).
With Physique du Rôle – a band that did not disdain the use of stage actions halfway between music, dance and theatre – Massimo Antonucci performed on the island's main stages and, in 1984, at the Rolling Stone in Milan.
Having disbanded in 1985, the group reunited three years ago, recovering their original repertoire and starting to compose new songs.
Some songs by Physique du Rôle are included in the soundtrack of “The Missing Boys”, the documentary film made in 2023 by Davide Catinari.
